Our Plan

Mission
We collaborate to establish Library Day as one of the National Days of Nepal Government to advocate increase in investment, establishment and promotion of the libraries for improved service delivery to the users for life-long learning using state of art standards and technology.

Goal
To enhance stronger library advocacy and increased involvement of people and coordinated professionalism as the vanguard of library development.

 

Objectives

  1. To advocate/ raise voice in concerned departments for clear legal obligation / rules and bylaws.
  2. To enhance cooperation among the library associations, consortia, federation, organizations etc.
  3. To help in library establishment and development.
  4. To work to improve professionalism.
  5. To work to meet the standard of the libraries of the world;
  6. To work for library-for-all to meet the target of Education for all by 2015.
  7. To develop study-culture.
  8. To encourage to invest for/on library.

 

Programs             (Few programs are listed)
Library establishment:
Various organizations are opening libraries on the occasion of Library Day in different places of Nepal.
Advocacy:
Different libraries, associations, organizations are conducting series of discussions, press-meets, publications, banner display, experience sharing, interaction with government, library authority and users etc. are some of the programs.
Cooperation:
We work with inter/national LIS professionals, associations, organizations, institutions, and related authorities.
Professionalism:
Organize professional skill development courses, workshops, experience sharing, library visits, and interaction programs.
We are conferring Library Day “Felicitation” (award) on each library Day.
Library-for-all:
Public, Community, University, College, School, and special libraries are being supported. The nature of support is in collection development, human resource development, Fund, and other technical assistance. Many public libraries are providing free-membership and free access to the library services.
Study Culture:
Essay competition, user interaction, leisure study plan, library visits, book review, study competition, Storytelling competition, seasonal (short-time) library activities for users are being conducted etc.

 REFSALA,
A strong resolution for the establishment of Regional Federation of South Asian Library Associations – REFSALA <provide link of the REFSALA constitution> was approved unanimously during the International Seminar on “Empowering Library Associations in Asia” which was organized on Oct. 5-8, 2004 by Nepal Library Association and Tribhuvan University Central Library – TUCL  in Kathmandu with support from IFLA/ALP. 
Mission: The mission of the Federation shall be to:

  1. Encourage cooperation and development of the library and information services and the library and information profession in the region;
  2. Develop, promote and strengthen the national library associations in the region;
  3. Promote high quality library and information services in accordance with SAARC areas of cooperation.

Objectives: The objectives of the federation shall be to facilitate:

  1. Preservation and access to the cultural and oral heritage of the Region for research and other purposes;
  2. Use of ICT and other means to bridge the gap between ‘information rich’ and ‘information poor’ in the region and with the individual countries;
  3. Capacity building activities and exchange of human resources for improved LIS services in the region;
  4. Implementation of IFLA’s policies and strageties relevant to the Region’s requirements;
  5. Expansion of advocacy for recognition of the high quality of LIS profession and services in the region;
  6. Increased cooperation in the region with the SAARC secretariat and to promote SAARC objectives.

Membership: The Membership of the federation shall comprise the following categories from the SAARC Countries whose proposes are in accordance with the mission and objectives of the federation:

  1. National Library Association,
  2. Other Library associations,
  3. Corporate/institutional and
  4. Personal who support the objectives of the federation.
