  Annual meeting of Nepal Library Association successfully completed in the pressence of all member and executive members of association.








ACTIVITIES

The NLA has completed its two-decade's time with many ups and downs. Following are the some of the major activities.
  1. Human Resources Development
    The NLA is cooperation with the National Skill Testing Board of the Council of Technical Education and Vocational Training has developed training package on Certification of Library and Information Science levels 1,2,3 and 4 (Junior Library Assistants, Library Assistants, Senior Library Assistants and Library Officer). The NLA is organizing "Basic Library and Information Science, Level 3" Training course of 35 days since 1991. More than 200 semi-professional library staff were produced, they are working in different libraries of Nepal. The level 1 and 2 training course also being conducted with cooperation from Nepal National Library and Rural Education and Development (READ). The level 4 course is not started yet.

  2. Seminar/Workshop/Conference
    The NLA has organized and participated in various conferences, seminars, workshops and talk programmes. The NLA with collaboration of Unesco, ICIMOD (Internationla Centre for Integrated Mountain Development), Unicef, DECORE Consultancy Group, Royal Nepal Academy of Science and Technology, Nepal National Library and Tribhuvan University Central Library, South Asian Partnership Nepal and Rural Education and Development organized the National Conference on the "Role of Information in National Development" in 24-26 August 1997. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Dipendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev inaugurated the Conference. About 75 planners, policy makers, legislators, journalists and librarians from all over the country participated the conference.

  3. National Survey
    The NLA with support from Unesco Regional Office Bangkok carried out the national survey on "Status of Libraries, Documentation and Information Centres and Library and Information Personnel in Nepal in 1997."

  4. Awards
    The NLA instituted "Saroswati National and Saroswoti International Award" to honors distinguished organizations/persons working in the field of library and information services for their significant contributions in Nepal. So far following persons and organizations were awarded.26

  5. Publications
    Journal of Nepal Library Association first issue was published in 1981. Altogether 8 issues of journal and 3 issues NLA courier have been published. The publications were discontinued from 1988 due to the financial constraints.

  6. Participation in National and International Seminars/Conference
    Members and executive members of NLA were participating in different national and international seminars and conference, such as IFLA Regional and International Conference, Special Library Association Conference, Indian Library Association Conference etc.
